Microneedling FAQs

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about micro needling and collagen induction therapy

What is micro needling?

Microneedling is a procedure that stimulates collagen production which is very important as we age, and also helps to decrease acne scars and brown spots. Overall, micro needling a great way to help skin turger remain firm and create a glowing skin.

What is micro needling facial?

Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is a minimally invasive treatment to rejuvenate the skin. A device with fine needles creates tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin, which triggers the body to create new collagen and elastin. Results can include improved texture and firmness, as well as a reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks. At Upper Cape Med aesthetics, we use only an FDA-approved skin pen made by Bellus Medical. It is the only microneedling device in the world cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, clinically proven to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars for ages 22 and up.

What micro needling side effects can I expect?

You will likely experience redness that looks like a mild sunburn for about 24 hours after a microneedling treatment. This redness will start to go away the next day. We give our clients a hyaluronic acid emollient which hydrates and helps calm the skin. Within a few days you may start to see a slight peeling. Once peeling is completed, your skin will have a softer but firmer feel, and will typically have a wonderful glow.

What does micro needling cost?

The cost for microneedling ranges from $300 to $450 per treatment. Generally a person will need four to six treatments to be effective, depending on their unique needs and goals.

Microdermabrasion vs micro needling – what’s the difference?

Microdermabrasion and microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) are often confused with one another. Here is a closer look at the difference:

Microdermabrasion is an ablative procedure. This means that the procedure gently abrades away the outer layer to resurface your skin. This can be an effective method of skin rejuvenation. This ablative approach is the basis of many procedures, including chemical peels and even at-home exfoliation.

Microneedling, however, is non-ablative. Non-ablative procedures do not remove the outer surface of the skin, but instead encourage the skin to produce a new surface layer. Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling works by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. So rather than addressing only your skin’s surface, microneedling promotes improvement from within, making this type of treatment very popular.

Because microdermabrasion is an ablative procedure that focuses on removing the outermost skin cells, it is most effective in treating surface skin issues. Men and women concerned with mild acne scars, rough texture, and mild pigmentation may benefit from a series of microdermabrasion treatments.

Unlike microdermabrasion, microneedling is capable of addressing deeper skin issues. Since microneedling encourages the production of brand new tissue, microneedling treatments can improve the appearance of deep scars, wrinkles, brown spots, and even stretch marks. At Upper Cape Med Aesthetics, we use only an FDA-approved skin pen made by Bellus Medical. SkinPen® is the only microneedling device in the world cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, clinically proven to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars for ages 22 and up.

What does a chemical peel do?

A chemical skin peel helps greatly with new skin rejuvenation by peeling away at the epidermis, stimulating collagen and removing dead skin and age spots. Once the course of this treatment is completed you should see a dramatic difference in skin texture along with an awesome glowing effect. Skin peels will help keep your skin vibrant and youthful looking.

How much is a chemical peel?

The cost of a chemical skin peel depends on the needs of your skin and the grade of the peel. A mild peel may be an investment of $75 to $100, while a more aggressive peel could be from $100 to $150.

Microdermabrasion vs chemical peel – what’s the difference?

Both microdermabrasion and chemical peel treatments help to improve various skin blemishes. Microdermabrasion exfoliates the top (superficial) layer of the skin. Chemical peels (also known as skin peels) can help improve impurities deep in the skin, going deeper to exfoliate the old layers of skin.
